Happy birthday to us! 🥳🎂
Today is our 9th anniversary and we want to celebrate it with you by releasing Weathercloud 11! Our latest version brings several new features and enhancements to the site. Let’s dive in!
What’s in this release?
⛵ Compatibility with Skywatch BL
Weathercloud 11 brings compatibility with the Skywatch BL range of portable weather stations from the Swiss manufacturer JDC Electronic. If you have a Skywatch BL 300, 400, 500 or 1000, you can now connect it to Weathercloud and monitor the weather conditions on the go while practicing your favorite outdoor sports.

The new Tracking feature specifically designed for Skywatch BL devices allows you to check the weather conditions recorded along your hiking, sailing or paragliding path. You can use ← and → to scroll through time in an easy way.

Skywatch BL devices connect to Weathercloud via the Skywatch BL app for iOS and Android. Check out our Compatible devices page for step-by-step connection instructions.

🌍 Enhanced Map
Say goodbye to long waits every time you visit the Map page. Data from the 100,000+ devices connected to Weathercloud is now loaded faster than ever thanks to better optimization.

We have also added 2 new map layers:
- Map: hides all data overlay for accurate navigation.
- METAR: shows only airport weather stations.

📑 Enhanced Data Export
When exporting data from the Database page, the resulting CSV file now displays the full name of each weather variable instead of its abbreviation for better understanding. For instance, wspdhi is now displayed as Gust of wind.

Additionally, the CSV file now shows blank rows if no data was uploaded at a given time, instead of removing the rows. This allows you to see at a glance if any data is missing.

🇭🇺 Hungarian Language
Jó hírek! If you are Hungarian, you will be happy to know that Weathercloud is now also available in your language. You can change your language to Hungarian from the Preferences page if you are logged in or by clicking the cog icon in the top right corner of the screen if you are visiting the site as a guest.

With the addition of Hungarian, Weathercloud is now fully translated into 12 languages, including Catalan, Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

✅ Other Minor Bug Fixes and Enhancements
- The Home page now shows the user’s unlinked devices instead of the message You have no devices.
- The Get coordinates feature now makes it easier to correctly position your device on the map.
- Fixed the location of misplaced devices on the Map page.
- Added the ability to use promo codes to enjoy discounts on special occasions such as World Meteorological Day.
- Upgraded to Google’s reCAPTCHA v3.
- Compatibility with the Sentilo platform and other public smart city projects.
- Server enhancements.
We hope you like the new features and improvements included in this release. Your feedback is highly appreciated, so feel free to leave a comment below. Thanks! 💙

I access weathercloud mostly through my computer browser. I assume I am getting the latest software version. One problem I have had is that the Evolution graphs show incorrect time window. If I am viewing at 11am, I am seeing a graph ending at 18:00 (6pm). I have checked that my preferences are set correctly for my time zone. What can I do?

Hi Fred, please make sure you have set the correct time zone for both your user account and your device. You can set the time zone of your user account from the Preferences page, and the time zone of your device by going to the Devices page and clicking on Edit device in the Settings drop-down menu.

Hello.
I would like to have the option to set notification via e-mail if my weather station stops sending data to your server. The time after you get notification should be customizable (e.g. after 1, 2, 3 …. hours of no data).
The other request I have is to be able to set regional time and date format on the start page. Currently it is only possible to set units.
Thanks and keep up the good work! :)

Hi Aljaz, you can set the units of measure and enable the device status emails at any time from the Preferences page. You can check out our FAQ page for more information about the status notifications: What states can a device be on?

Dear Weathercloud team!
First of all, thank you for steady development of the project! And a couple of comments.
(1) I would echo the above suggestion to have possibility to select date and time format in profile settings. Now it is linked to a selected language but often it is not convenient to have mm.dd.yyyy instead of dd.mm.yyyy etc.
(2) I would encourage you to think about android app, which not only will move the project to the next level, but will allow to use widgets which would show real-time info of the selected weather station in beautiful and brief way on mobile desktop.
(3) I would also propose to consider using Telegram bots for notifications (instead of or in addition to emails). Such notifications are being used, for example, by router manufacturers for a while, and it makes sense.
Thanks and BR,
Alejandro S.Reply

Hi Alejandro, thank you for sharing your suggestions. We are actively working on allowing independent selection of date and time formats from the language. Also, we are in the process of developing the app for mobile devices. Your feedback on Telegram notifications is duly noted and will be taken into consideration. We appreciate your input.

I haven’t done this in a while so maybe I’m forgetting something, but I can’t follow any more stations. I deleted a couple of inactive ones but the “star” button to follow a particular station is grayed out and unresponsive. I used to be able to do this without issue.

I have a bookmark for my own weather station, but if I use this on my phone when I am away from home, I get the current location, not my station.

Hi Wiggers, we recommend bookmarking your device page instead of the Home page, as it remains unaffected by your location.

I would like to know if the data which are recorded each 10-minutes time interval, correspond to integrated data over a limited period of time. In that case, what is the sampling period for the data used for integrating the final result (after 10 minutes). I would like to add that I’m registered under a basic account mode.
Thanks for your reply.Reply
Weathercloud says:

Hi Stephane, the upload interval is 10 minutes for the Basic plan, and 1 minute for the Pro and Premium plan. You can check out our Plans page for more details. Thank you.

hi again,
I have just realized that the latitude position value of my device (IETR2_SKYWATCHBL1000) is not noticed in the csv file at the 31st may date. Do you have any explanation?
Thanks again.Reply
Weathercloud says:
June 1, 2023 at 11:30 am
Hi Stephane, please note that the exported CSV files do not include the latitude and longitude of the device.

Is there an API for downloading data from my weather station? I would like to, say at the end of each month, have a raspberry pi download my data for the month.

Hi Clayton, we currently do not have an API for data retrieval. However, you can conveniently export monthly data to CSV format directly from the Database page.

Hi I’m very new to Weathercloud (joined today!), so sorry if this is a stupid question. When I download data in CSV format, I only seem to get data up as far as “Atmospheric pressure (hPa)”, and everything from “Rain (mm)” to “UV index” is blank. Any ideas why please? Thanks!

Hi Paul, thank you very much for joining Weathercloud. Upon reviewing, we have confirmed that your exported CSV file contains data for all the weather variables recorded by your device. It seems that you may have already resolved the issue. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please let us know.

Thanks! Yes, I’m now getting all the data. I think it is because I had registered my unit as a 5-in-1, not a 7-in-1. Great site and support! Thanks again. Paul

Problem with Wind Direction data download
I download data from my Bresser 5 in1 station “Raven” to Excel regularly. Situated in Altrincham, Cheshire at coordinates 53° 21′ 54″ N 2° 18′ 37″ W.
From 17th April the wind direction is reported on most days in the csv download as “calm”, the windspeed is reporting correctly and certainly isn’t calm!
Wind direction data from previous months which was reported correctly in the past is now, on most days, reported as “calm”.
Is this a bug in Weathercloud software or a fault in my station? Batteries were changed three months ago. Using Chrome and Vivaldi browsers to access, same problem with both. Many thanks

Hi Richard, following yesterday’s site update, we’ve made some adjustmets to how wind speed is displayed in the reports. Now, when the wind speed is 0, the wind direction is indicated as Calm. If calm conditions prevail, Calm will replace the wind sector. However, please note that the exported CSV file still includes the raw data for wind direction. If you need any further clarification, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Thats not right? Sample data below for 1- 5 April
NEW Wind OLD Wind direction
Mon 1CalmENE
Tue 2CalmENE
Wed 3CalmWSW
Thu 4CalmSSE
Fri 5W WThe wind speed and wind gusts are unchanged between the two exports.
The exported csv does NOT contain the raw wind direction.

Following our recent update, Calm now replaces the wind sector (e.g. ENE) in the daily, monthly and annual reports if wind speed has been 0 for most of the time. There have been no changes to how data is displayed in the exported CSV files, which contain the raw data sent by the device.

Disappointing change. My historical records now can’t be compared with current.
Shame you didn’t consult with users first before changing your site coding
Will get data from https://meteostat.net/en/station/03334?t=2024-04-08/2024-04-15 instead

The adjustment to how wind direction is presented in the reports was proposed by users. There have been no changes made to the historical records stored in the database.
